The Vocational Centre Project
The Project will
- Help the children to develop the skills needed to have a simple trade of their own (or help with one depending on their need). This will give them a vocation to use within the community once they leave Family of Hope.
- Our older children will move to the new site once they have reached their potential in the school and academic setting.
- We hope to sell any products or surplus food to the local community.
- Many of our children with Special Educational Needs are unable to progress very far through the Ugandan curriculum as there is a need to pass each year before moving up.
- We have set up a simple vocational education programme in the afternoons to teach the children life skills and trades to provide opportunity for their futures. This will be continued at a lot greater depth in the new centre. This will include farming, animal husbandry, carpentry, hairdressing, local crafts, sewing and hopefully fish farming.
- The children and young people at both sites will be able to benefit from the extra food and produce that is created at both farm plots, helping us to become more self sufficient.
How Far Will My Money Go?
Every little donation will help us with this project. Here are some examples of what your money could do…
- Provide bricks, cement and timber for the construction of a new dormitory, workshop, kitchen and long drop toilets.
- Provide machinery to dig out the fish lake.
- Help us to buy resources and tools for the activities on site including seed, animals, farming tools and carpentry tools.
- Pay for our skills teachers and the onsite matron.
- Help us pay the builder and labourers when constructing the buildings.
